President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has written to the Senate, seeking the confirmation of Dr. Bernard Doro from Plateau State as the new Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.

The nomination was conveyed in a letter addressed to the upper legislative chamber and read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Wednesday’s plenary session.

In the letter, President Tinubu urged the Senate to give the nominee swift consideration to enable the ministry to continue implementing key social intervention and poverty alleviation programmes across the country.

“The nomination of Dr Bernard Doro is in line with the administration’s ongoing efforts to reposition the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction for greater transparency, accountability, and impact,” part of the letter reportedly stated.

Dr. Doro, a seasoned development expert and humanitarian practitioner, hails from Plateau State and is known for his extensive work in community development and poverty reduction initiatives in northern Nigeria.

His nomination follows the federal government’s renewed commitment to strengthening the social safety net and empowering vulnerable groups, particularly in the wake of recent economic reforms.

The Senate is expected to fix a date for Doro’s screening in the coming days.

If confirmed, he will take over the leadership of a ministry critical to the Tinubu administration’s agenda of lifting millions of Nigerians out of poverty and mitigating the effects of economic hardship.
