Reps to hold International conference to address Energy Sector

The National Assembly is to hold a Legislative Conference on Renewable Energy to map out strategies that will help reform the nation’s energy sector

Briefing Journalists in Abuja, the Chairman of House Committee Renewable Energy, Mr. Afam Ogene, explained that the conference will bring together key stakeholders and industry players to discuss renewable energy legislations, energy transition, renewable energy financing, investment opportunities, and related matters towards developing a national legislative framework on renewable energy.

Mr. Ogene said the conference is aimed at facilitating Knowledge Exchange,
Promote dialogue among legislators, experts, and stakeholders on critical legislative priorities, regulatory frameworks, and global best practices to accelerate renewable energy adoption in Nigeria

“Develop an Action-Oriented Roadmap, by producing a clear, time-bound legislative action plan with prioritized reforms, investment incentives, and accountability mechanisms to drive renewable energy growth and grid modernization”

According to Mr. Ogene, the outcome of the conference is expected to propose Policies and Legislative Reform Recommendations for promoting renewable energy use in Nigeria.

He said the conference will also propose legislative instruments for increasing private and public sector investment in renewables

“The session will focus on how to establish a unified Legislative framework on Renewable Energy development, investment and financing”

The Conference, which is in collaboration with the office of the Speaker, the United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, under the Parliamentary Development Program, will be attended by legislators across some African countries.
