The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed what it described as a desperate smear campaign against the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, saying the allegations circulating in sections of the media were baseless, politically motivated, and bound to fail.
In a statement issued on Monday by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party said those behind the coordinated attacks were “enemies of progress” threatened by Tunji-Ojo’s record of performance and reform-driven leadership at the Interior Ministry.
“The so-called allegations being peddled against Dr. Tunji-Ojo are dead on arrival,” the statement read. “They represent nothing more than the handiwork of political detractors who cannot stand the minister’s rising profile and the positive transformation he has brought to public service.”
Morka noted that since assuming office, Tunji-Ojo has implemented far-reaching reforms that have improved efficiency at agencies under the Interior Ministry, particularly in the passport issuance process, the automation of immigration services, and the decongestion of correctional centres across the country.
He said the minister’s performance had earned him widespread public approval, which “understandably unsettled certain vested interests” who are determined to undermine his credibility through fabricated stories and misinformation.
“The APC stands firmly by Dr. Tunji-Ojo,” the party added. “We urge Nigerians to disregard these unfounded claims and continue to support a man who has demonstrated uncommon integrity, dedication, and competence in delivering on President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The party further warned opposition figures and media outlets against being used to propagate falsehoods, insisting that attempts to tarnish the image of hardworking public officials would not derail the administration’s commitment to good governance and accountability.
“The days when smear campaigns could distract performing leaders are over,” Morka said. “This government remains focused on service delivery, not on baseless distractions from individuals desperate to score cheap political points.”
Dr. Tunji-Ojo, who has previously served as Chairman of the House Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has been widely praised for his digital governance initiatives and commitment to institutional reforms since joining the Federal Executive Council in 2023.
The APC’s statement comes amid growing public discourse surrounding alleged petitions and media reports targeting the minister — claims the party insists are politically motivated and without any factual basis.
