The Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has called for divine intervention in Nigeria’s affairs, praying for a “new and better Nigeria” during his recent pilgrimage to Rome, Italy.
Obi, who disclosed his visit in a statement on Saturday, said he joined other Christian faithful in the Holy City to seek God’s guidance and blessings for the nation. The former Anambra State governor noted that Nigeria was at a critical point and in dire need of moral, spiritual, and economic renewal.
According to him, his prayer focused on peace, unity, and purposeful leadership that would uplift citizens from poverty and restore hope among the youth.
>While in Rome, I took time to pray for our dear country, Nigeria. I asked God to heal our land, guide our leaders, and inspire a new wave of honesty and compassion in governance. Our nation has all it takes to be great, and I believe with sincerity, discipline, and faith, we can rebuild it,” Obi said.
He also urged Nigerians not to lose hope despite current challenges, emphasizing that national transformation requires both prayer and collective action.
>We cannot just pray and do nothing. We must all play our part in building a nation founded on justice, hard work, and accountability,” he added.
Obi’s visit to Rome comes amid ongoing calls for good governance and better living conditions across the country. His message has since attracted reactions from supporters and religious leaders, many of whom described his gesture as a reflection of humility and patriotism.
The pilgrimage, sources said, also afforded the former governor the opportunity to visit historic Christian sites and meet with clerics who shared in his vision for a more equitable Nigeria.
