Businessman and politician, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, has pledged to transform Anambra State’s economy and improve infrastructure by harnessing the untapped gas deposits in Omasi, Ayamelum Local Government Area.
Ukachukwu made the vow while addressing supporters and community leaders during a town hall meeting in Onitsha on Tuesday. He said the vast natural gas resources in Omasi and other parts of the state present a golden opportunity to drive industrialization, create jobs, and boost internally generated revenue (IGR).
Anambra is richly blessed, not just with talent and enterprise but also with natural resources that have not been properly developed. The Omasi gas field alone can power industries, create energy security, and turn this state into an economic hub of the South-East,” Ukachukwu stated.
He lamented that despite its potential, Anambra continues to face developmental setbacks due to poor infrastructure, unemployment, and overreliance on federal allocations. He assured residents that, if given the opportunity to lead, his administration would prioritize economic diversification, youth empowerment, and the expansion of energy access.
Ukachukwu emphasized that his plan for Anambra includes attracting both local and foreign investors to develop the state’s energy sector while ensuring that host communities benefit directly from resource exploitation.
We will adopt a community-inclusive approach that guarantees transparency and fairness. Every community hosting these resources must feel the impact in jobs, infrastructure, and social development,” he added.
The politician also outlined plans to revamp education, healthcare, and agriculture, noting that rural communities would receive special attention under his proposed development agenda.
According to him, the Omasi gas project would serve as a foundation for broader industrial growth, supporting factories, agro-processing plants, and new small-scale enterprises across the state.
Community leaders and youth representatives at the meeting lauded Ukachukwu’s vision, describing it as “practical and achievable.” They urged political leaders to move beyond promises and take concrete steps toward resource-driven development in Anambra.
Ukachukwu concluded by reaffirming his commitment to accountable leadership, saying:
We cannot continue to depend on others to fix our state. Anambra has the capacity, the people, and the resources to rise again. My mission is to unlock that potential.”
