The socio-political advocacy organisation Arewa Revival Project (ARP) has cautioned against equating partisan friction and legislative obstructionism with genuine constitutional independence.

Addressing journalists during a press briefing at Merit House in Maitama, Abuja, on Monday, November 2, 2026, ARP National Coordinator and Chief Spokesperson Comrade Aminu Haruna warned that persistent conflict between the legislature and executive risks crippling governance and delaying vital national development projects.

The briefing addressed growing political friction and public scrutiny over the relationship between the executive arm and the 10th National Assembly, particularly Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Addressing the core functions of parliament, the ARP stressed that the legislature’s fundamental mandate remains lawmaking, appropriation, and constitutional oversight, rather than creating friction for political gain.

To dispel public confusion, the ARP directly tackled the misconception that conflates partisan rivalry with true institutional autonomy. Haruna stated that genuine legislative independence relies on rigorous, objective scrutiny, policy debate, and constitutional oversight rather than perpetual political posturing or institutional deadlock.

Regarding the leadership of the National Assembly, the project demanded an objective evaluation based on concrete legislative output rather than political ridicule or unsupported claims.

Haruna noted that the opposition must play its role by focusing on constructive accountability, exposing genuine wrongdoing, and offering viable policy alternatives to move the country forward.

The ARP reiterated its support for national stability, constitutional order, and key developmental interventions, such as ongoing Kano River ecological projects, stating that inter-arm alignment around critical reforms ultimately serves the public interest.
