The Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled that detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, must face his trial on terrorism and treasonable felony charges. Justice James Omotosho dismissed his application to quash the seven-count charge, declaring that a prima facie case exists and directing him to open his defence on October 8.
This ruling prolongs a case that has been dragging for years and highlights the odds Kanu has faced since his arrest. From prolonged detention in solitary confinement, to the constant amendments of charges against him, to the refusal of courts to dismiss the case outright, Kanu has been in a legal and political storm.
