Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has strongly condemned the recent surge in attacks against security personnel across Nigeria, calling such acts “tragic and unacceptable.”
In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, Obi lamented the number of soldiers, police officers, and members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), as well as vigilante groups, who have lost their lives while serving the nation.
He expressed deep sorrow for the sacrifice of these individuals, emphasizing that their service should not be taken for granted. “Our men and women in uniform have paid the ultimate price in the line of duty… their contributions to national stability must be acknowledged,” he said.
Obi also appealed to both government and citizens to show support and compassion for the families left behind. He stressed that adequate compensation and welfare support for the dependents of fallen officers are not acts of charity but a matter of justice.
Highlighting that the loss of security operatives has wider repercussions, Obi urged authorities to improve not only motivation—through good pay, training, proper equipment—but also ensure they are better protected when executing their duties.
He closed his remarks with a message of solidarity: “To every fallen hero, may your soul rest in perfect peace… to those left behind, you are not alone.”
