Top chieftains of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) have made a passionate appeal to citizens to organize and mobilize grassroots support across all 774 local government areas to secure victory for the party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, in the 2027 general elections.
The call was issued during a strategic stakeholders’ town hall meeting held on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at the Ladi Kwali Hall, Abuja Continental Hotel, Federal Capital Territory. Addressing party delegates, volunteer groups, and civil society leaders, party leaders emphasized that a successful political shift in 2027 requires moving beyond online enthusiasm into ward-level community mobilization.
Speaking at the event, the National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, Comrade Yunusa Tanko, stated that the party’s strategy focuses directly on polling-unit ownership and civic engagement. ”The destiny of our nation in 2027 will not be decided in boardrooms or on social media, but at the polling units across our rural and urban communities,” Tanko declared.
“We are urging every Nigerian who desires good governance, accountability, and economic revitalization to take ownership of the Peter Obi project by forming polling-unit committees in their respective neighborhoods.” Also addressing the gathering, NDC National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, outlined the party’s grassroots expansion roadmap.
He noted that the NDC has officially activated its national mobilization campaign to integrate independent volunteer support organizations into the formal party structure. ”Mr. Peter Obi represents a clear break from transactional politics,” Enekweizu said. “To safeguard our collective future, our members and volunteer networks must register voters, protect votes, and actively communicate our agenda for power sector reforms, food security, and job creation directly to the electorate.”
Political economist and NDC stakeholder Prof. Pat Utomi, who also spoke at the venue, urged Nigerians to reject identity politics and unite behind leadership capable of addressing systemic corruption, rising inflation, and insecurity. The event concluded at 2:30 PM with the inauguration of a 36-state grassroots mobilisation committee tasked with driving voter registration awareness and unit-by-unit campaign operations ahead of the 2027 polls.
