The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has called on the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Adepele Ojo, to investigate what it described as glaring judicial irregularities fueling the lingering crisis at the local government level.
The party, in a statement on Thursday, said it was deeply concerned about “conflicting and suspicious court pronouncements” which, according to it, have worsened the political logjam in the state’s third tier of government.
The PDP alleged that some judicial officers had taken sides in the tussle over the validity of elected council chairmen and transition committees, thereby undermining public confidence in the judiciary.
“The people of Osun State deserve justice, not a manipulation of the law to serve partisan interest,” the statement read. “We therefore urge the Chief Judge to launch an urgent probe into these irregularities, so that the courts will not be seen as a tool in the hands of desperate politicians.”
The party further warned that unless the judiciary acts decisively, the credibility of democratic institutions in the state could be severely eroded.
While reiterating its confidence in the judiciary as the last hope of the common man, the PDP insisted that the Chief Judge must step in to restore sanity and prevent further escalation of the crisis.
The call comes amid growing tension over the legitimacy of local government authorities in Osun, with opposition parties accusing the state government of manipulating the courts to maintain control.
Stakeholders are now watching keenly to see whether the Chief Judge will heed the call and initiate an inquiry into the alleged irregularities.
