Former Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has pledged to significantly strengthen environmental conservation and climate action across Nigeria following his election as the President of the Board of Trustees (BOT) for the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF).
​Osinbajo made the commitment on Wednesday during his acceptance speech at the Foundation’s 37th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Lagos.
​Addressing conservationists, policymakers, and environmental stakeholders, the former Vice President emphasized the urgency of addressing ecological degradation and climate change, framing them as critical priorities for the nation’s future.
​In his address, Osinbajo commended the NCF for its decades-long dedication to preserving Nigeria’s biodiversity. He noted that his leadership would focus on scaling up existing conservation models and fostering strategic partnerships to tackle pressing environmental challenges.
​”The challenge of climate change and environmental degradation requires urgent, deliberate action. We must protect our natural habitat, not just for the sake of the environment, but for the livelihood and survival of our people.” Said Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, NCF BOT President.
​The AGM brought together key environmental advocates to review the foundation’s milestones and chart a sustainable roadmap for the coming years. Under Osinbajo’s leadership, the NCF is expected to focus on Upscaling Forest Restoration, Enhancing policy advocacy and Climate Education among the youth in sustainable practices to build grassroots resilience against climate action.
​The Nigerian Conservation Foundation remains the country’s premier non-governmental organization dedicated to sustainable development and nature conservation. Stakeholders have widely welcomed Osinbajo’s appointment, citing his extensive governance experience as a potential catalyst for advancing Nigeria’s green transition on both local and international stages.
