Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Tuesday that it had arrested a woman in her fifties accused of planting explosives on the Trans-Siberian Railway in an alleged act of sabotage linked to the ongoing war with Ukraine
According to the FSB, the suspect—reportedly acting on instructions from Ukrainian intelligence assembled a homemade explosive device in August 2025 using readily available materials. She allegedly placed the device on railway tracks in the Zabaikalsky region of eastern Siberia, detonated it, and filmed the explosion on her mobile phone before sending the footage to her handler as proof in exchange for a reward.
The agency did not disclose her identity but said she was born in 1974.
In its statement, the FSB also cautioned that it is closely monitoring social networks and messaging platforms such as Telegram and WhatsApp for evidence of Ukrainian recruitment efforts inside Russia.
Separately, the agency claimed that a resident of the Bryansk region, bordering Ukraine, had made contact with a banned terrorist organisation through Telegram. He allegedly collected explosives from a hidden cache and was awaiting further instructions at the time of his arrest.
