Kachikwu made the allegation during an interview on Channels TV, reacting to INEC’s recent recognition of the David Mark-led leadership of the ADC. Advertisements Earlier this week, INEC officially endorsed the new national executives of the ADC following a period of internal restructuring within the party. The fresh leadership team, headed by former Senate President David Mark, includes Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Mani as National Treasurer, Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary, and Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor as National Legal Adviser. Reacting during an interview on Channels Television, Kachikwu said Yakubu’s move was a calculated attempt to undermine Tinubu before bowing out of office. “I didn’t expect him (Yakubu) to do anything otherwise. I knew that as the INEC chairman was leaving, he was going to give the president a big middle finger and show his displeasure towards him. That’s exactly what he did,” Kachikwu said.
The ADC chieftain claimed the timing of the announcement was strategic, arguing that Yakubu intentionally waited until his exit from office was near to avoid facing any consequences.
“When people have had dealings and have things that they’re hiding, nobody can say anything to him because they can’t afford to expose each other. And so he’s done what he’s done,” he remarked. Expressing frustration, Kachikwu said reform-minded parties like the ADC were the real casualties of such power plays. “But unfortunately, my party—the party of Nigerians who are trying to rebuild this nation—we are the victims here. When two elephants fight, the grass suffers. In this case, we in the ADC are the grass,” he concluded.
