Abuja, Nigeria -The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caucus in the House of Representatives has commended the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) for what it described as the peaceful, united and successful conduct of its recent meeting in Abuja, while strongly criticising the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for worsening insecurity and economic hardship in Nigeria.
Leader of the Caucus, Rt. Hon. Fred Agbedi, Ph.D, who represents Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency, said the NEC outcome once again demonstrated that PDP remains the only credible alternative Nigerians can rely on.
Agbedi praised the solidarity shown by PDP governors, former ministers, state party chairmen, the National Working Committee (NWC), the Board of Trustees (BoT), and other organs of the party, stressing that their unity reinforced PDP’s strength as the country’s true opposition.
“The PDP has once again proved that it is the only party with the structure, leadership, and credibility to rescue Nigeria from the failures of the APC,” Agbedi declared, congratulating the new chairman of the party.
The Caucus also took a swipe at the Federal Government over its refusal to release local government funds in Osun State, despite a valid court judgment affirming the PDP-led councils.
Describing the action as anti-democratic and illegal, Agbedi urged President Bola Tinubu to immediately release the withheld allocations.
“No government has the right to trample on democracy. Court judgments must be obeyed. The people of Osun voted, and their mandate must be respected. Anything less is pure illegality,” he warned.
On the national security crisis, the PDP lawmakers accused the APC-led administration of being indifferent to the daily killings and kidnappings across Imo, Katsina, Plateau, Benue, Zamfara, and Borno States.
“From north to south, Nigerians are living in fear. A government that cannot guarantee the safety of its people is a government that has lost legitimacy,” Agbedi said.
The Caucus added that beyond insecurity, the APC government has plunged Nigerians into unprecedented hardship, with rising poverty, joblessness, and despair pushing citizens to the brink.
“After almost a decade in power, APC has left Nigerians poorer, hungrier, and more hopeless than ever before. People are losing faith in government and some are even driven to suicide because their cries are ignored,” the statement read.
The PDP Caucus insisted that only the opposition party has the political will, competence, and people-focused agenda to restore hope and deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.
