The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission will on Friday, August 15, 2025, arraign 23 suspected internet fraudsters before Justice D. Dipeolu of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, following a sting operation at a hotel within the precincts of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta. The arraignment is part of a larger crackdown that saw 93 suspects arrested during a pool party the EFCC says was organised to celebrate fraudulent activities.
According to the Commission, profiling revealed that nearly all those arrested were implicated in offences relating to impersonation, identity theft, and internet fraud. Investigators allege the suspects moved the party to the OOPL hotel in an attempt to evade detection, believing the venue would shield them from arrest. EFCC clarified that the former president’s facility was never the target of the operation, but rather the individuals involved, many of whom have reportedly confessed to the crimes. The remaining suspects are expected to be arraigned in batches in the coming days.
