THE road to the Mambilla Plateau – one of Nigeria’s most breathtaking treasures – has now become a test of patience, courage, and vehicle endurance. For far too long, travellers, farmers, and businesses have endured its treacherous potholes, crumbling edges, and endless stretches of neglect. People who departed Jalingo for Gembu three days ago are still on the road, they haven’t reach Gembu. A journey of 8 hours is now a four-day journey. This is not just a local problem; it is a federal road, and it falls squarely within the jurisdiction of our Senators and Members of the House of Representatives from the Central Zone.
Our National Assembly members are not powerless. Through constituency projects, zonal intervention funds, and their legislative influence, they can secure budgetary provisions and press the Federal Ministry of Works to prioritise this critical route.
The Mambilla Plateau is not only a hub of agricultural wealth but also a tourism gem with the potential to boost our economy and put Taraba on the global map. But without a safe, motorable road, that potential remains locked away. We therefore call on our NASS – both in the Senate and the House of Representatives – to rise to the challenge. Let the 2026 budget bear the signature of their commitment. Let their voices thunder on the floor of the National Assembly until this federal road is fixed. Before then, within their possibilities as NASS, this road can still be maintained.
Because a journey to the Mambilla Plateau should be a joy, not a punishment.
