Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been remanded at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin after failing to meet the bail conditions imposed by an Upper Area Court in Kwara State.
Portable was granted bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum, with the court specifying that one of the sureties must be either the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, PMAN while the second surety must own a landed property in a Government Reserved Area, GRA with a valid Certificate of Occupancy, C of O.
He appeared before the court on charges of defamation of character against Fuji musician Mr. Okunola Saheed, known as Osupa.
The charges include criminal, defamation, intimidation, inciting disturbance, and cyberstalking, stemming from a live broadcast on Instagram where Portable allegedly defamed Osupa.
According to the petition filed by Saheed Osupa, Portable made the defamatory remarks on March 19, 2025, claiming Osupa was envious of his success and attempting to destroy his reputation.
The Fuji musician maintained that Portable’s remarks were not only defamatory and damaging but also intended to incite public hatred and disturb the peace.
Portable was arraigned under several legal provisions, including Section 392 (Criminal Defamation), Section 114 (Inciting Disturbance), and Section 397 (Criminal Intimidation) of the Penal Code, as well as Section 24(1)(b) and 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.
The case has been adjourned, with the trial judge urging all parties to maintain decorum as the court proceeds to hear the matter.
Meanwhile, Portable, who reportedly confessed to the allegations during interrogation at the State Intelligence Department SID, Ilorin is expected to meet his bail conditions before regaining freedom.
