The Federal Government has appointed Fuji music icon, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1, as an Aviation Security Ambassador, following a recent incident involving the musician at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, announced the appointment on Tuesday, saying the decision was aimed at strengthening public awareness on airport conduct, passenger rights, and aviation security protocols.
According to Keyamo, Kwam 1’s high profile and wide influence in the entertainment industry would be leveraged to promote safety, courtesy, and respect for aviation regulations among travelers.
“Recent events have shown the need for more public enlightenment on acceptable behaviour at airports. Kwam 1 has agreed to work with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to use his voice and platform to promote orderliness, security consciousness, and mutual respect between passengers and aviation personnel,” the minister stated.
The appointment comes days after a minor confrontation between the Fuji star and aviation security officials at the Lagos airport went viral on social media. The incident, which sparked mixed public reactions, was later resolved amicably, with both parties affirming mutual respect.
In his acceptance speech, Kwam 1 expressed gratitude to the government for the honour, pledging to use his influence to “educate, enlighten, and inspire Nigerians” on best practices at airports.
“I am committed to being a bridge between the public and aviation authorities. My message will be that of discipline, compliance with rules, and peaceful interaction with security officials,” he said.
FAAN said it would soon unveil a nationwide campaign featuring Kwam 1 in short videos, jingles, and community outreach programmes aimed at improving travellers’ understanding of airport rules and security procedures.
