According to a statement by Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, posted on his X account on August 11, 2025. The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) responded by imposing an indefinite flight ban, both local and international, on the passenger, and she was arraigned at Ikeja Magistrates Court on August 11, charged with criminal offenses, and remanded at Kirikiri Prisons after failing to provide adequate sureties. Keyamo, after discussions with the Airport Police Command, NCAA, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and Ibom Air, condemned the incident and the public release of a video showing the passenger’s indecent exposure during the scuffle, calling it “totally unacceptable” and ordering sanctions against the staff responsible for leaking the footage.
Keyamo emphasized the need for airlines to enhance staff training in public relations to de-escalate such incidents and announced a joint security meeting with relevant agencies the following week to improve coordination on aviation safety and security. He stressed that passengers have access to the NCAA’s Consumer Protection Directorate for grievances, urging against taking the law into one’s own hands. The minister vowed to continue enforcing strict measures, including lengthy flight bans and referrals to law enforcement, for unruly behavior, referencing recent similar incidents. The viral videos of the altercation, while useful as evidence, have sparked debate, with Keyamo firmly rejecting the public shaming of the passenger as a debasement of womanhood, reinforcing his commitment to maintaining dignity and order in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
