The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed that Imoleayo Ezekiel Adeniran, Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, was assassinated in his home in Akure. The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, July 17, in the “Olopa to Di Woli” area along Ondo Road.

Police spokesperson SP Olayinka Ayanlade said the assailants emerged from a nearby bush and forced a substance, believed to be poison, into the registrar’s mouth. Adeniran was rushed unconscious to a hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure as detectives work to identify and arrest those responsible.

UNIMED’s management described the news as devastating, noting that Adeniran, who died at the age of 41, had assumed the role of the university’s third substantive registrar on January 6, 2025. He was last seen at his duty post on Monday, July 14. His sudden and violent passing has left staff, students, and the local community in mourning.
