Nigeria’s Senate Committee on Customs has raised the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) 2025 revenue target from the proposed ₦6.584 trillion to a bold ₦10 trillion. The directive, made during the 2025 budget defence session today, reflects confidence in the NCS’s performance having surpassed its 2024 target of ₦5.079 trillion by more than ₦1 trillion.
Committee Chairman Senator Isah Jibrin urged the NCS to not only focus on revenue but also step up its role in border security. “There is an alarming flow of illicit drugs in the country, fueling banditry and violence,” he said, calling on Customs to strengthen surveillance and enforcement. He also stressed that unchecked smuggling threatens local industries and foreign exchange reserves, urging support for locally produced goods instead of foreign imports.
The revised target and proposed ₦1.132 trillion expenditure will now go to the Senate for final approval as plenary reconvenes.
