A group operating under the aegis of Alia Consolidation Core Team (Benue- ACCT) has criticized the Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District of Benue state, Senator Abba Moro for his silence on the treatment and subsequent suspension of Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a fellow member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The group, in a statement signed by the Secretary, Comrade Didacus Iorver, and made available to newsmen in Makurdi on Friday – today, March 7 – accused Moro of selective justice, wondering why he calmly turned a blind eye to abuses against his own party after playing the role of a self-appointed moral arbiter recently.

They noted that Moro’s forthright intrusion in the affairs of the Benue State House of Assembly, where he criticized the removal of the Chief Judge and the suspension of 13 assembly members, signifies a man who thrives on squabble rather than genuine concern for governance.

Wondering whether his meddling in state matters is genuinely about justice or a malicious way to get at the state leadership, the group said: “In stark contrast, Moro has remained inexplicably silent in the face of the dragging, suppression and consequent suspension slammed on Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a fellow member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“This glaring double standard reveals a troubling paradox in his principles.

“If he was so quick to lash out at perceived injustices in Benue, why has he chosen to ignore an egregious act against one of his own? Moro’s silence speaks volumes, suggesting that his concern for what he termed justice is selective and contingent on his political convenience.”

The group noted that the “ruthless retribution meted out to Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, stripping her of entitlements and privileges without just cause, is a conspicuous aggression on democratic principles and the rights of representatives.”

“What constitutes a crime extreme enough to necessitate such draconian measures against a voice elected by the people?” the group queried.

Moro’s passivity not only impairs the integrity of the Senate but also weakens the absolute foundation of the PDP, which claims to promote the rights of its members. His hesitation to speak out against this prejudice is a sellout of the ideals he proclaims to uphold.”

They called on Sen. Moro to adopt integrity over opportunism and to hold himself answerable to the very fundamentals he claims to represent.
