In a bid to reduce road crashes resulting from drunk-driving and enhance safety on the roads, a logistics company, Pomegranate Nigeria Limited, has presented digital breathalysers to the Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Presenting the 30 packets of the digital breathalyzers to the Command’s  headquarters in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Tuesday – earlier today, January 28 – the Chief Executive Office PNL, Wole Elusakin, said the donation was part of the organization’s efforts to reduce road accidents caused by drunk drivers.

He noted that as a responsible logistics company, PNL recognizes the importance of safety on the roads, particularly for drivers and other stakeholders, hence its decision to partner the FRSC in addressing the issue of drunk-driving.

He explained that the breathalysers are commonly used to detect and prevent drunk-driving, ensure workplace safety, and enforce law and order.

According to Elusakin, the digital breathalysers have several advantages, including their ability to detect alcohol levels quickly and accurately, and their ease of use.

He noted further that apart from providing efficient and reliable logistics solutions to clients across the country, the company equally prioritizes safety, quality, well-being of the people, especially road users.

“Our basic call to action as a logistic company is safety on the road. We prioritize safety and prompt delivery of goods, and this initiative is a demonstration of our commitment to this goal. This initiative focuses on reducing accidents caused  particularly among articulated vehicle drivers,” he stated.

Elusakin, who disclosed that the donation of the breathalyzers was started in Ogun State because it is the industrial hub of the country with its attendant heavy vehicular activities, said the company will soon take the donation to other FRSC state commands in Nigeria.

In his remarks, the Sector Commander, FRSC, Ogun State Command, Akinwunmi Fasakin, commended the PNL for its efforts in promoting road safety.

He described the donation of the alcohol test kits by the company as timely, as the FRSC was set to commence enforcement of random alcohol tests for drivers.

Fasakin who listed drunk-driving, over speeding and fatigued tyres as major causes of road accident deaths in the country, added that the FRSC in Ogun State will intensify enlightenment and awareness campaigns on the dangers of consuming alcoholic beverages by drivers

“Safety on our roads is a collective responsibility, and we appreciate the company’s commitment to this cause.

“The donation of breathalysers is a significant contribution to our efforts to reduce accidents on our roads. We will work closely with Pomegranate Nigeria Limited and its partners to ensure the effective implementation of this initiative,” the Ogun FRSC boss surmised.
