Dr Falmata Babagana Zulum, wife of Borno State Governor, yesterday – Wednesday, December 18 – disbursed N30 million cash and food items to 600 Christian widows and orphans in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, as Christmas welfare packages.

Zulum said the initiative was an extension of her felicitation to Christian faithful, especially the widows and the orphans, ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Emphasising the need for continued peace and harmony in the state while reiterating the government’s commitment to supporting the vulnerable population, Zulum announced that each beneficiary would receive a sum of N50,000 cash, a 25kg bag of rice, 5 litres of cooking oil, and a carton of macaroni.

Earlier, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, commended the Governor’s wife for supporting the vulnerable groups.

She said the Zulum Administration had prioritised inclusivity and remained steadfast in catering to the welfare of all citizens.

The News Agency of Nigeria quoted one of the beneficiaries, Esther Bwala, as expressing her gratitude for the timely intervention, saying the gesture would help her celebrate Christmas with joy and dignity.
