40 Laptops, Air Conditioners Stolen in One Day at Michael Okpara University, Says VC

The Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Professor Ursula Akanwa, has revealed that no fewer than 40 laptops and several air conditioners were stolen from the institution in a single day, highlighting the security challenges facing the university.
Professor Akanwa made the disclosure while briefing journalists on her achievements during her first 100 days in office. She said the incident was among the challenges her administration inherited and has been working to address since assuming leadership of the institution.
According to the vice-chancellor, the theft exposed significant security lapses within the university and underscored the need for stronger measures to protect institutional property. She noted that efforts are underway to improve security across the campus and prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
Akanwa stated that her administration remains committed to restoring accountability and strengthening the university’s infrastructure despite the setbacks.
She added that steps taken within her first 100 days in office are aimed at enhancing the learning environment and ensuring the effective management of the institution’s resources.
