The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a sharp rebuke to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), warning that he risks eroding his political capital ahead of the 2027 general elections if he fails to demonstrate ideological consistency and organizational depth.

The warning was contained in an official press statement issued on Monday morning, October 19, 2026, from the APC State Secretariat located along Acme Road in Ikeja, Lagos.

Speaking on behalf of the ruling party, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the Publicity Secretary of the Lagos State APC Chapter, stated that Obi’s recent political realignments and frequent platform shifts reflect an over-reliance on populist momentum rather than a clear, enduring ideology or sustainable political structure.

The APC’s declaration comes in direct response to statements made by the NDC’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, who projected that Peter Obi would secure an overwhelming victory over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos State during the 2027 general elections.

Dismissing the NDC’s projections as political daydreaming, Oladejo emphasized that the political dynamics of 2027 will differ fundamentally from those of 2023.

”No two elections are the same. The 2023 phenomenon drew strength from a unique combination of public frustration and novelty,” Oladejo stated. “Obi must demonstrate that his political appeal has matured beyond the circumstances of 2023. Otherwise, the movement risks becoming an echo chamber in which political momentum simply expires.”

Addressing Obi’s political trajectory, from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP), and his recent transition to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), the Lagos APC asserted that continuous party switching undermines voter confidence and exposes a lack of foundational principles.

Oladejo highlighted several critical areas where the ruling party believes Obi’s campaign strategy falls short. The APC urged Obi to clarify his core policy positions on national debt, energy subsidies, and fiscal federalism rather than relying on generalized opposition rhetoric.

The statement noted that social media enthusiasm cannot replace grassroots ward-level party organisation and structural stability necessary for national campaigns.

The APC stressed that Lagos voters prioritise visible infrastructural developments, economic stability, and proven governance track records over sentiment-driven political movements.

During the 2023 presidential election, Obi recorded a notable performance in Lagos State, polling 582,454 votes against Bola Tinubu’s 572,606 votes. However, the APC maintains that the ruling party has since consolidated its grassroots alignment and development initiatives across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

The APC concluded by advising opposition parties to focus on offering constructive governance alternatives rather than relying on temporary coalitions and electoral calculations.
