The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) inaugurated the Electoral Logistics Committee (ELOC) on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at its National Headquarters in Abuja to oversee early planning for the 2027 General Elections.

Addressing security chiefs, agency representatives, and key stakeholders, INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan issued a stern warning that no eligible voter should be disenfranchised due to operational bottlenecks or the late arrival of voting materials.

Describing the preparations for the 2027 elections as “a marathon rather than a sprint,” Prof. Amupitan stressed that early planning and cross-agency coordination are vital to ensuring the timely, secure distribution and deployment of electoral materials across Nigeria’s vast and varied terrain.

”By inaugurating this committee today, we are laying the foundation for a transparent, efficient, and credible election,” Prof. Amupitan said. “The inclusion of our security and logistics experts from various arms of service underscores our resolve to treat election logistics as a matter of national priority”.

He noted that the credibility of any election hinges on operational success, emphasizing that voters must find polling units open, equipped, and ready at the appointed time.

The commission appointed National Electoral Commissioner, retired Rear Admiral Jamila Abubakar-Sadiq, to chair the multi-agency body. The committee comprises officials from military and paramilitary formations, security outfits, transport unions, and regulatory bodies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Immigration Service, maritime authorities, and aviation agencies.

In her remarks following the inauguration, Rear Admiral Abubakar-Sadiq confirmed that the committee would develop a comprehensive strategic logistics framework drawing from lessons learned during previous election cycles.

The terms of reference for the committee include evaluating operational weaknesses, assessing storage facilities, and inspecting the readiness of transport hubs, warehouses, vehicles, airports, and seaports to ensure seamless material movement and retrieval nationwide.
