The Ogun State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has officially declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid and endorsed Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, for the 2027 Ogun State governorship race.
The dual endorsement was publicly announced during a media briefing on Monday morning, October 19, 2026, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Speaking on behalf of the Igbo community, the President of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo in Ogun State, Eze Stephen Okorie, highlighted Senator Adeola’s track record of developmental initiatives across the state—particularly in road infrastructure and market development, as a primary catalyst for their decision.
Drawing from his 36-year residency in Owode-Yewa in Yewa South Local Government Area, Eze Okorie explained that the Igbo community had closely monitored political trends across the state.
He emphasized that backing Adeola addresses the historical marginalization of the Ogun West Senatorial District, which has not produced a governor since the state’s creation 50 years ago.
Furthermore, the socio-cultural body affirmed its commitment to national unity and mutual understanding, urging Nigerians to rally behind President Tinubu’s administration for continuous growth leading into 2027.
In response to the gesture, Senator Solomon Adeola expressed his appreciation for the community’s support, reiterating his commitment to inclusive governance and public service that benefits all residents regardless of ethnic origin.
As a token of appreciation, Eze Okorie revealed that the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo will formally confer a chieftaincy title on Senator Adeola during a grand ratification ceremony scheduled to take place in Abeokuta at the end of October 2026.
The high-profile media gathering was attended by several prominent government officials and political leaders, including the Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Iziaq Kunle Salako; the Ogun State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hon. Laolu Olabimtan; and Hon. Jimoh Ojugbele, alongside other All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and stakeholders across the state.
