The Labour Party governorship candidate for Lagos State, Rotimi Odunaike, officially flagged off his campaign in Ikeja on Friday, October 16, 2026, amid fanfare and pageantry as supporters filled the state capital to back his bid for governance.

The campaign launch brought the commercial hub of Ikeja to a standstill as party loyalists, grassroots members, and residents gathered to witness the unveiling of Odunaike’s blueprint for the state.

Unveiling his 162-page manifesto, Odunaike decried the state of infrastructure and basic social amenities across Lagos, pledging to begin fixing the state from his first day in office.

“I will fix Lagos. Our slogan is ‘A New Lagos For All’. This is not just a mere slogan, but a determination to put the people at the centre of my administration. My deputy, Prince Lateef Adenkule Adele, and I will fix Lagos and make it work for all,” Odunaike declared.

Odunaike, a former state chairman of the Labour Party and a professional in banking, agriculture, and artificial intelligence, emphasized that his governance model would focus on improving the daily living experience of residents.

His campaign highlights key priority areas including Integrating intermodal transport networks to alleviate traffic bottlenecks across the metropolis. The restructuring local transport parks to enhance safety and regulatory oversight and setting public-facing performance benchmarks to create an empathetic and responsive civil service.

Also speaking at the flag-off, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, urged the Lagos State chapter to present a united front ahead of the upcoming election.

“I charge you to surpass the feat the Labour Party recorded in 2023. I am certain that, with unity of purpose, you can achieve this because the Labour Party is a party of the grassroots in Lagos State,” Usman stated, reminding members that “a house divided against itself cannot stand.”

The event was also addressed by party spokesperson Ken Eluma Asogwa, the Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, who highlighted Odunaike’s track record in reconciling party factions and building organisational capacity.
