The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that nine registered political parties have officially collected their access codes to upload candidate particulars ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The disclosure was made on Tuesday in Abuja by Malam Mohammed Haruna, the INEC National Commissioner in charge of Voter Education and Publicity, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to Haruna, the nine political parties that had secured their access codes as of the close of work on Monday are Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), National Democratic Party (NDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP)

The Commissioner clarified that the collection process requires a proactive approach from the political entities, emphasizing that it is the direct responsibility of participating parties to approach the commission for their codes rather than expecting INEC to deliver them to party secretariats. Furthermore, anyone collecting the access code on behalf of a political party must present a formal authorization letter from the party’s leadership.

INEC has already established a clear operational window for the submission process, fixing the timeline for parties to upload their presidential and National Assembly nomination forms via the designated portal.

Haruna urged the trained party officials to adhere strictly to the commission’s guidelines and cautioned against the usual habit of last-minute submissions.

”INEC has been generous by extending the deadline from the close of work to midnight of the deadline date. If any political party decides to wait until the deadline, INEC cannot be blamed for that,” Haruna warned.
