The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially directed all its validly nominated candidates to commence nationwide campaign activities ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

The directive was issued during a press briefing held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the party’s National Secretariat, Plot 412 Constitution Avenue, Central Business District, Abuja.

Addressing political correspondents and party supporters, the National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, Comrade Debo Ologunagba, emphasized that all electioneering activities must adhere strictly to democratic norms, focusing on critical national challenges rather than personal attacks.

The party stressed that candidates running for executive and legislative seats across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory must strictly center their messaging on policy solutions, economic recovery, security, and governance reforms.

”The NDC is giving a clear and unequivocal directive to all our flagbearers across the country: campaign activities for the 2027 polls must be purely issue-based,” Ologunagba stated. “Our nation is at a delicate juncture, and citizens deserve clear roadmaps on how our party intends to revive the economy, tackle insecurity, and strengthen public infrastructure.”

The NDC issued a stern warning against the use of political violence, thuggery, hate speech, and provocative language throughout the campaign cycle. Party leadership warned that any candidate found inciting unrest or using derogatory language would face severe internal disciplinary measures, up to the revocation of their nomination ticket.

Guidelines highlighted during the briefing include a strict prohibition of physical violence, voter intimidation, or the recruitment of youths for electoral thuggery.

Another major highlight is elimination of ethnic, religious, or personal slurs in public speeches, social media broadcasts, and campaign materials and the Compliance with Electoral Guidelines: Adherence to regulations set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and local security agencies.

The NDC called on other political parties, civil society organizations, security agencies, and the electoral body to foster a peaceful electoral environment. The party reiterated its commitment to upholding the terms of the National Peace Accord and urged security agencies to remain neutral while protecting voters and political actors throughout the campaign period.

Candidates have been instructed to submit their official campaign timetables and itineraries to the NDC National Campaign Council before launching local rallies.
