The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified pressure on state governors elected on its platform, charging them to ensure absolute victory and deliver decisive votes across all elective tiers in the upcoming 2027 general elections. The mandate was reinforced during a high-level strategic engagement on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at the party’s National Secretariat, Buhari House, in Abuja.
Addressing state leaders and media representatives during the session, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, emphasized that the party’s leadership expects governors to translate state-level executive machinery and developmental records into overwhelming electoral success.
”The National Working Committee (NWC) has made it explicitly clear to all APC governors that leadership comes with political accountability,” Morka stated at 2:30 PM following the closed-door alignment meeting. “Our governors must mobilize grassroots structures, harmonize internal interests, and guarantee victory for the party at the presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and state assembly levels in 2027.”
The directive coincides with heightened mobilization campaigns across various geopolitical zones. In a recent stakeholder meeting held on October 29 in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji set a benchmark by urging party actors to secure at least 80 percent of total votes in their respective domains for the party’s candidates.
Similarly, during a regional flag presentation ceremony in Kaduna on Saturday, October 24, 2026, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, called on governors and party executives to consolidate grassroots support to maintain the party’s dominance. To achieve these strategic targets, the party’s leadership has outlined specific core directives for all state executives.
Governors have been instructed to immediately activate polling unit-level committees to drive voter turnout, while simultaneously reconciling aggrieved factional leaders within state chapters to prevent anti-party activities. Furthermore, the party is tasking its leaders with aggressively highlighting both state and federal government achievements to win over undecided voters.
As political activities build momentum ahead of the 2027 polls, the national leadership maintains that state governors will be held directly accountable for electoral performance in their respective jurisdictions.
