The Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) formally met with the leadership of the Ogbakor Ikwerre Cultural Organisation Worldwide on Friday, October 30, 2026, at the Ogbakor Ikwerre Secretariat in Port Harcourt to build support for its 2027 presidential and state electoral bids.
The high-level consultation brought together party leaders, traditional custodians, and cultural elders to discuss strategic political alignments ahead of the upcoming general elections.
Leading the delegation, the Rivers State Chairman of the ADC, Chukwudi Dimkpa, presented the party’s national platform, which features former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate alongside former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, as his running mate.
Dimkpa emphasized that the party views Ogbakor Ikwerre as a crucial socio-cultural institution representing the identity and interests of the Ikwerre nation, noting that the consultation was aimed at seeking traditional counsel, prayers, and community backing.
During the meeting, the delegation formally introduced its local slate of candidates, presenting Dr. Gabriel Pidomson as the ADC Governorship Candidate for Rivers State, Mr. David Okumgba as the Deputy Governorship Candidate, alongside several senatorial, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly flagbearers of Ikwerre origin.
Addressing the gathering, Pidomson underscored the strategic importance of Amaechi’s vice-presidential candidacy, framing it as a significant opportunity to secure high-level federal representation for the Ikwerre people and the wider region.
In response, the leadership of Ogbakor Ikwerre commended the delegation for respecting local traditions, offering traditional blessings and counsel while reiterating their commitment to peaceful and credible democratic processes in 2027.
