The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has officially dissociated the party from ongoing political merger and coalition talks ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party leadership warned prospective political aspirants and opposition platforms to avoid dealing with unauthorized individuals and expelled members, whom it labeled as “impostors” claiming to speak on its behalf.
The clarification was made during a world press conference held at 11:00 AM on Monday at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja. Addressing newsmen, the NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, alongside the National Secretary, Oginni Olaposi, emphasized that the NNPP is focused on its internal restructuring and national e-registration drive rather than forming election alliances.
Speaking on behalf of the National Executive Committee, Johnson clarified that the NNPP is not part of any opposition alliance or joint presidential candidate agreement being touted across political gatherings. ”The NNPP, as a duly registered and structured political party, wishes to categorically distance itself from any political coalition or merger talks currently circulating in the media.
We have not authorized any individual, group, or committee to represent our party in any merger negotiations ahead of the 2027 general elections. Anyone claiming to act on behalf of the NNPP in these arrangements is doing so strictly in an unauthorized, personal capacity.”
The statement comes on the heels of reports linking the NNPP to opposition summit resolutions in Ibadan and regional coalition dialogues aimed at fielding a unified candidate to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The leadership noted that former party chieftains who participated in these events have either resigned or been dismissed by valid court rulings, meaning their decisions hold no legal or political weight over the party. Adding to the warning, NNPP National Secretary Oginni Olaposi urged political parties, aspirants, and the public to exercise due diligence before engaging in inter-party dialogues.
”We are using this medium to issue a clear warning to prospective political aspirants across the country and sister political parties: Do not be misled by impostors or political merchants parading themselves as leaders of the NNPP. The legitimate and legal leadership of our party is intact, and any official commitment will only be communicated through our recognized national officers.”
The party reiterated that its immediate priority is expanding its grassroots presence and completing its electronic membership registration exercise across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Furthermore, the leadership confirmed that it has formally submitted its schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The NNPP urged INEC to strictly uphold subsisting court rulings regarding the party’s recognized national executive leadership to prevent confusion as the 2027 political calendar unfolds.
