2025 Mandela Prize Awarded to Canadian and Kenyan Humanitarians

The United Nations has announced the recipients of the 2025 Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela Prize.  Brenda Reynolds, a social worker of Saulteaux heritage from Canada, and Kennedy Odede, a Kenyan social entrepreneur, were selected for their dedicated service to humanity, promotion of reconciliation and social cohesion, and community development.

The award ceremony is scheduled for July 18, 2025, at the UN Headquarters in New York, coinciding with Nelson Mandela International Day.  The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, alongside the President of the seventy-ninth session of the General Assembly, Philemon Yang, will present the honorary prizes.

The laureates were chosen from 331 nominations received from 66 Member States, reflecting the global recognition of their contributions to society.
