A 14-year-old girl, identified as Amina Ya’u, is currently recovering from gunshot wounds after suspected armed herders opened fire on farmers in Majelisa village, a agrarian community bordering Nasarawa and Plateau states.
The attack occurred on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at approximately 3:30 PM, while local farmers were harvesting crops in their fields. According to eyewitnesses, a group of armed men suddenly ambushed the farm site, shooting indiscriminately before escaping into the surrounding bushes.
Amina Ya’u sustained severe gunshot injuries during the chaos and was rushed by community members to a nearby regional medical facility, where health workers confirm she is receiving emergency treatment and is in stable condition.
A local community leader in the border area, Bulus Rop, confirmed the incident, describing it as an unprovoked assault on unarmed villagers engaged in routine agricultural activities.
”The attackers arrived while women and young people were working on the farm and opened fire without warning,” Rop stated. “We are appealing to the state and federal governments to step up security along this border corridor to protect our lives and farm produce.”
Reacting to the incident, DSP Ramhan Nansel, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Nasarawa State Police Command, acknowledged reports of the attack and confirmed that security operatives have been alerted.
”The Command is aware of the reported shooting incident around the border area,” DSP Nansel said. “Joint security patrols involving police tactical teams and military personnel attached to Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have been deployed to comb the forest axis, restore calm, and track down the perpetrators.”
Tensions along the Plateau-Nasarawa border remain high as community members call for permanent security outposts to deter recurring farmer-herder clashes and protect farming activities ahead of the harvest season.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and report suspicious movements to security forces.
