A committee to create a comprehensive Style Manual for the Federal Civil Service has been Inaugurated by Head of the Federation’s Civil Service, Didi Walson-Jack, in a move to promote professionalism and efficiency.
Speaking at the inauguration event, Walson-Jack emphasised the critical importance of communication in governance, calling it the lifeblood of efficient administration, according to a statement released by Director, Information and Public Relations, Eno Olotu.
She emphasised that in a service as vast and varied as the Federal Civil Service, regular and unambiguous communication is essential.
“The establishment of this committee is a pivotal step toward realizing our vision of a modern, transparent, and efficient civil service,” Walson-Jack said. “This initiative reaffirms our commitment to clarity, professionalism, consistency, and accountability in all our engagements, both internal and external.”
According to the Head of Service, all official communications from Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) would be unified under the Style Manual. It would provide a unified and expert approach to documentation and communication within the Federal Civil Service by standardising writing styles, fonts, templates, and stationery.
Expressing confidence in the newly inaugurated committee, Walson-Jack commended the expertise and dedication of its members. She acknowledged the demanding nature of the assignment but expressed assurance in their ability to deliver a manual that meets the highest standards and serves as a legacy for future generations.
In her remarks, Permanent Secretary, Service Policies and Strategies Office, Deborah Odoh, reaffirmed the Service’s dedication to carrying out the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025 (FCSSIP-25). She underlined that this project is in line with the overarching goal of building a top-tier, competent civil service that propels the growth of the country.
“We are fully committed to executing FCSSIP-25, which seeks to position the Federal Civil Service as a professional and efficient institution meeting global standards,” Dr. Odoh stated.
In his response, the committee chairman, retired Permanent Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, Adesola Olusade, expressed gratitude for the trust reposed in the team. He pledged the committee’s dedication to fulfilling its mandate and delivering a transformative document.
The Director of the Organisation Design and Development Department, Mimi Abu, on her part lauded the visionary leadership of Walson-Jack. She described the task as a call to action that would contribute significantly to realizing the dream of an exemplary public service.
The inauguration of the Style Manual Committee is among the highlights of the activities marking Walson-Jack’s 100 Days in Office under the theme “Marching to Greatness: Celebrating 100 Days.”
