Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Tuesday suspended his annual leave to receive a high-level international delegation in Maiduguri, signalling the state government’s commitment to sustained engagement on humanitarian recovery.
The visiting envoys, drawn from India, Egypt, Indonesia, the Philippines, Turkey, Malaysia and Qatar, were in the state to gain firsthand insight into the humanitarian conditions in Borno, a region that has endured more than a decade of insurgency.
The delegation was joined by the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Malick Fall, as well as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Bernard Doro.
Rather than limiting the visit to formal briefings, the delegation was taken on an extensive tour of projects implemented by the Zulum administration. The inspection covered selected education, health and human capital development initiatives designed to rebuild communities affected by years of conflict.
The tour was conducted under the leadership of the Acting Governor, Umar Usman Kadafur, who explained the objectives and impact of the projects while highlighting ongoing efforts to restore livelihoods and improve access to basic services.
The visit provided the envoys and humanitarian partners an opportunity to directly observe progress made by the state government and to better understand the challenges that remain in addressing displacement, recovery and long-term development in Borno State.
