Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe State on Tuesday played host to his Yobe State counterpart, Governor Mai Mala Buni, and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari, for the inauguration of key projects and the groundbreaking ceremony for new Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) secretariats.
The event, held in Nafada Local Government Area, marked another milestone in the state government’s infrastructure drive aimed at strengthening grassroots governance and accelerating socio-economic development.
Among the projects inaugurated were the new Nafada Local Government Secretariat, a four-span bridge in Nafada, and a mega non-formal learning centre known as the Tsangaya School.
The newly constructed secretariat replaces an old, dilapidated structure that had for years hampered efficient service delivery. Officials said the modern facility would provide a conducive working environment for civil servants and enhance administrative effectiveness at the local government level.
Equally significant is the Nafada four-span bridge, which addresses long-standing challenges faced by residents during the rainy season. For years, flooding had rendered several communities inaccessible, disrupting economic activities, healthcare access and education. The new bridge is expected to ensure year-round connectivity and ease movement of goods and people.
The mega Tsangaya School, designed as a non-formal learning centre, aims to integrate Almajiri children into a more structured educational system.
The facility is expected to provide basic literacy, numeracy and vocational training, alongside religious education, in a supportive environment.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Yahaya described the projects as strategic interventions aligned with his administration’s commitment to inclusive development and grassroots empowerment.
Governor Buni commended the Gombe State Government for prioritising infrastructure and human capital development, noting that investments in education and local governance are critical to long-term stability and growth in the North-East.
The event also featured the groundbreaking for new LCDA secretariats, a move officials say will further decentralise governance and bring services closer to the people.
Residents and community leaders in Nafada expressed optimism that the projects would improve living standards and stimulate economic activities across the area and neighbouring communities.
