The Oyo State Government has declared Monday, October 5, 2026, a work-free day for all primary and secondary school teachers across the state in commemoration of this year’s World Teachers’ Day.
The announcement was formally detailed in a administrative circular issued on Sunday, October 4, by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Musibau Babatunde, and released in an official statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju.
According to the state government, the holiday is designed to give educators the freedom to participate fully in planned commemorative events, reflect on recent advancements in the state’s education sector, and foster solidarity across the profession.
Highlighting the pivotal role of educators, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju emphasized that the decision underscores the administration’s continuous commitment to teacher welfare, dignity, and professional growth.
”The work-free day is intended to provide teachers with the opportunity to fully participate in activities organized to celebrate their contributions, reflect on progress within the education sector, and strengthen unity within the teaching community,” Olanrewaju stated. He added that teachers remain the primary engine driving human capital development and educational progress across Oyo State.
Main state-level anniversary proceedings and rallies organized in coordination with the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State Chapter, are scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM on Monday, October 5, at the NUT House Complex along Ring Road, Ibadan, alongside designated centers across various local government areas.
The Oyo State Government extended its warm congratulations to all educators across public and private institutions, reassuring stakeholders of its ongoing policies to upgrade learning facilities, enhance training opportunities, and maintain prompt salary and benefit disbursements statewide.
