Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has once again stirred the political waters, taking aims at opposition coalitions while declaring that Rivers State remains firmly locked in for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Speaking at a high-profile event over the weekend, the former Rivers State governor dismissed rival political alliances as desperate, visionless, and structurally incapable of offering a viable alternative to the current administration.
Wike, who remains a polarizing yet undeniable powerhouse in Nigerian politics, did not mince words when assessing the current state of the opposition.
”What you see out there is not a coalition built on ideology; it is a gathering of frustrated politicians looking for a shortcut to power,” Wike stated, pulling no punches. “They lack vision, they lack direction, and Nigerians can see through the noise.”
The minister mocked the ongoing realignment talks among major opposition parties, suggesting they are doomed to fail because they are driven by personal ambition rather than national interest.
Turning his attention to his home turf, the strategic oil-rich Rivers State, Wike made it clear where the state’s loyalty will lie in the upcoming presidential cycle. Despite the internal friction within the state’s political landscape, Wike asserted that Rivers has “no choice” but to back President Tinubu.
Wike argued that the Tinubu administration has shown immense commitment to infrastructure development and economic reforms that will ultimately benefit the Niger Delta region.
”Rivers State cannot afford to be in the opposition,” Wike declared. “We are counting our gains under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and when the time comes, Rivers people will stand with him solidly. There is no alternative.”
