Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has said that Abuja’s “Smart City Vision” is anchored on strategic investments across five key areas aimed at transforming the city into a model of modern urban development.
Speaking at the 2025 edition of the Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Wike identified the five focus areas as Urban Mobility, Sustainability, Public Safety, Digital Governance, and Economic Empowerment.
According to the minister, the Smart City initiative is designed to position Abuja as a technologically advanced, environmentally sustainable, and inclusive capital city that meets the needs of its growing population.
“Our Smart City Vision is a bold commitment to make Abuja a global example of how innovation, technology, and planning can improve quality of life,” Wike said.
“We are making strategic investments to enhance public transport systems, promote clean energy, strengthen safety infrastructure, and empower residents through digital access and entrepreneurship.”
He revealed that Abuja is actively collaborating with international development agencies and private sector partners to achieve these objectives, adding that such partnerships would help bridge funding and capacity gaps in the implementation of the Smart City projects.
Wike also highlighted ongoing efforts to expand broadband infrastructure, upgrade public utilities, and improve environmental resilience through green urban planning.
He stated that the administration’s long-term goal is to make Abuja not only a political capital but also a hub for innovation, investment, and sustainable urban living.
“The future of our cities depends on how we integrate technology and people-centered planning,” Wike said.
“Abuja is embracing that future through collaboration, innovation, and a shared vision of progress.”
