The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, delivered a fiery address during a church service on Sunday, accusing opposition figures of hypocrisy and political desperation, while referencing former governors and presidential aspirants.
“These are the same people that want to rescue Nigeria,” Wike said. “You were Minister for Interior here. To go and get international passport, you will spend weeks and months, and years before you get international passport, yet you say Nigerians are angry… you want to rescue your stomach stomach.”
Taking a direct jab at Peter Obi, Wike criticised the lack of democratic precedent. “Some of you have sympathy for somebody you don’t know… for eight years, he was governor. He never conducted local government election. Never,” Wike declared, questioning the credibility of such leaders. “Now you say you form coalition for eighteen months, which means the president was in office for six months. President where? Some of you don’t know somebody—just out of emotion.”
He suggested that the recent coalition-building efforts by opposition leaders are merely a scramble to return to power after electoral defeat. “It’s time for them to stay out. They cannot stay out of power. Unfortunately, they have stayed out.”
