Gospel singer Alayo Melody has opened up about the final days of his late colleague, Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, revealing that efforts to fly her abroad for medical treatment failed because her condition had deteriorated.
Alayo Melody shared the details in a video posted on his Instagram page on Thursday, where he spoke emotionally about the challenges Omije Ojumi faced before her death. According to him, plans were made to take the gospel singer to India for advanced medical care, with notable support from Prophet Sam Ojo and Prophet Taiwo Ojo.
He explained that the two clerics had volunteered to cover the cost of her visa processing and medical treatment. However, the process was not smooth. “The visa application was done three times before it was finally approved,” he said. “Sadly, by the time the visa came out, Omije was already very weak. The doctors advised that she was not fit to travel.”
Alayo Melody also used the opportunity to address the growing trend of religious figures publicly sharing visions of death involving public figures. He appealed to prophets and spiritual leaders to exercise discretion, urging them to communicate such revelations privately rather than on social media.
“If you see any bad vision about someone, please reach out to them directly,” he said. “Going online to announce death visions about celebrities is not right. Everyone will die someday. May God bless us all with long life.”
He added that details of Omije Ojumi’s burial arrangements would be made public in due course.
Bunmi Akinnaanu passed away on January 12 in Lagos at the age of 46. She was widely known for her gospel hit Omije Ojumi, a song that resonated strongly within Nigerian churches and Christian homes. Before fully embracing gospel music, she worked in the banking sector but later resigned to dedicate her life to music and ministry.
