18th February 2026 is the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan and the Christian season of Lent as both overlap significantly.
Both holy events emphasize fasting, sober reflection, prayer, repentance, alms giving, spiritual awakening, empathy for the less fortunate and vulnerable.
This convergence creates a time of shared devotion between Muslims and Christians. The Ramadan 30 days fast is expected to run from February 18 to March 19, 2026 while the 40 days Lent begins on Ash Wednesday of February 18 and concludes on April 3, 2026.
While Eid al Fitr is on March 20, 2026, Easter Sunday is on April 5, 2026. It is also interesting to note that in 2025, the beginning of Ramadan and Ash Wednesday both occurred between 3rd and 5th March.

Lessons For Nigeria
These occurrences and phenomenon of overlap and convergence of Ramadan and Lent should encourage interfaith discussion and events, as the opportunity offers a viable time for Muslims and Christians to host interfaith discussion and events for religious dialogue.
In Nigeria, this period of religious convergence should contribute significantly to peace building and reconciliation efforts, especially that this nation has been grappling with religious and ethnicity-driven killings across board.
After all, both Christians and Muslims worshipping one God.
To God be the glory.
