A confrontation involving popular Nigerian musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1 De Ultimate) at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport has sparked a social media storm after the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed he was involved in an incident on August 5 during a ValueJet flight to Lagos. According to FAAN, the musician attempted to board with an unidentified liquid substance, later revealed to be alcohol, and allegedly refused instructions from aviation security and the flight captain. He was eventually escorted off the aircraft by AVSEC officers after disrupting boarding and refusing to vacate the aircraft’s front cabin.
The incident, now under investigation, has ignited intense reactions online. Some users criticized FAAN’s handling of the matter, suggesting the forceful removal of a high-profile figure was excessive and avoidable. Others defended the agency’s response, emphasizing that no individual, regardless of status, should be allowed to flout aviation safety protocols. “Rules are rules, and safety should come first,” one user posted, while another asked, “Couldn’t this have been de-escalated better instead of manhandling an elder?”
