WAPA hosts capacity building programme for NGOs on funding access

In a bid to empower women-focused Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), with essential skills with which to access grants, the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) has put together a one-day capacity building workshop to advance the welfare of women.

The Commissioner, WAPA, Mrs Bolaji Dada, in a message to the occasion emphasised the critical role that NGOs play in driving social challenge.

She acknowledged that a significant hurdle for many organisations is securing sustainable funding to support their initiatives, hence the need to bridge the gap by equipping participants with the necessary tools to identify, apply, and secure funding opportunities both locally and internationally.

The Commissioner highlighted the unwavering commitment of the state government in supporting women’s development and poverty alleviation to include training and a level playing field for them to thrive.

” Through various initiatives, the state has continued to create an enabling environment for women-focused NGOs to thrive and drive positive change”.

she stressed that to maximize all opportunities, organisations must be well-informed, strategic, and proactive in their approach to funding.

Appreciating the participants, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Onigbanjo expressed gratitude to the State Governor for his commitment to empowering women and supporting non-profit making organisations through various initiatives.

Dr. Ayodeji Abdulrauf, a Facilitator, provided participants with hands-on strategies on how to effectively identify and secure both local and international grants.
