On Wednesday, we celebrated a milestone at the West Africa Broadcast & Media Academy, WABMA: the graduation of our first cohort of international students to undertake their programmes physically on a WABMA campus, said Dr. Ike Okere, WABMA Rector.
Today, we are back in the classroom for another significant assignment.
WABMA is facilitating a two-day Strategic Communication and AI Communication Masterclass for members of the Public Affairs Department of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
For us, these two events, happening back to back, tell an important story about WABMA’s journey.
We are building a professional media academy that serves both the wider West African media community and some of the key public agencies shaping communication, accountability and public trust in Nigeria.
The media and communication profession is changing rapidly. Artificial intelligence is changing how we research, create, monitor and distribute information. At the same time, public agencies must communicate with greater clarity, speed and credibility.
Our task at WABMA is to help professionals remain prepared for that reality.
From welcoming journalists and media professionals from across West Africa into our classrooms, to working with the Public Affairs professionals of the EFCC, we see the same mission:
Building better communicators. Strengthening professional practice. Expanding African capacity.
One classroom at a time.
And we are only getting started.
