Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Katsina State on Sunday, October 4, 2026, for a high-profile one-day working visit aimed at boosting local infrastructure, urban transport, and economic empowerment across the state.

Upon touchdown at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport, Vice President Shettima was received by the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda. Following a brief reception where the Vice President inspected a Guard of Honor mounted by officers of the Nigerian Air Force, the delegation proceeded immediately to execute the day’s scheduled commissioning ceremonies.

The official tour commenced with the inauguration of 11.2 kilometers of newly constructed and expanded road networks designed to ease intra-city traffic congestion and improve logistics within the state capital. Among the primary road developments commissioned was the 4-kilometer Filin Polo–Ring Road project.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Katsina, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Stanley Nkwocha, highlighted the Federal Government’s ongoing commitment to collaborating with state administrations on critical infrastructure.

”The Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains resolute in supporting sub-national governments that prioritize impactful urban development. These road projects are vital for regional connectivity, reducing transit times, and enhancing local trade,” Nkwocha stated.

Following the road commissioning, Vice President Shettima officially flagged off 230 mass transit vehicles to expand the operational capacity of the Katsina State Transport Authority (KSTA). The new fleet, which includes high-capacity buses and mini-shuttles, aims to cushion the impact of transportation costs for civil servants, students, and everyday commuters.

Chief Press Secretary to the Katsina State Governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, noted that the initiative aligns directly with Governor Radda’s policy thrust to subsidize public mobility and revitalize local commerce.

”The deployment of these 230 vehicles across key transport corridors in Katsina will provide affordable, safe, and reliable transit options for thousands of residents daily,” Mohammed said during the ceremonial handover at the General Muhammadu Buhari House, Katsina.

In addition to infrastructure and transit launches, the Vice President’s itinerary featured the rollout of the second phase of the Community Investment Fund (CIF) under the World Bank-supported Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up (NFWP-SU).

The financial assistance initiative is set to support over 57,000 women across the Daura and Funtua Local Government Areas to bolster small-scale entrepreneurship and rural livelihoods.

The event was attended by prominent traditional rulers, including the Emir of Katsina, HRH Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, members of the Katsina State Executive Council, federal lawmakers, and senior government functionaries.

Vice President Shettima concluded his official engagements late Sunday afternoon before departing for Abuja.
