Social media activist VeryDarkMan has accused prominent Nigerian bloggers and media outlets of being “on payroll,” alleging they deliberately suppress coverage of national tragedies while flooding timelines with entertainment content. In a strongly worded monologue shared online, he claimed platforms like Instablog, Linda Ikeji, and Tunde Ednut have been offered bribes to ignore or downplay security crises especially those implicating the government.
He alleged that some bloggers were offered money “to never post Peter Obi again,” and that insecurity in Nigeria is being hidden through deliberate editorial choices. “They will post who fought who, who bought a car, who did BBL, but when 500 people are killed in a community, they won’t post it or they’ll write long text with no pictures because they know Nigerians don’t read,” he said. According to him, this is all part of a wider strategy to “water down” national outrage.
